Our member Lene introduced us to another of her favourite Danish painters who are not so well known in Germany – Anna Ancher.
17 very interested ladies were familiarized with Anna (1859 – 1935), who was from Skagen on Jylland (Jutland) and found herself having to battle against restrictions for women regarding access to art education and Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi (the Royal Danish Art Academy).
Despite of all this, she advanced to a very successful artist and is well know for her excellency in reflecting especially the extraordinary light conditions around her home area.  After her death her house was turned into a museum but she is also represented in the Skagen Museum and other museums in Denmark.
