Have you ever thought that Bingo and Cockney would match? Last Wednesday 19 Cosmo ladies met for a Bingo afternoon. Most ladies knew little more about Bingo than that it was about numbers. But before the numbers were drawn, Lesley introduced to us Cockney of East London and how people there would have talked, or better sang numbers and words. So as not to be understood well by police and officials, various rhyming terms were recombined to generate a number or a word. Examples are: 54 = Clean the floor, 67 = Made in Heaven and 78 = Heaven's gate! Or money = bread and honey, beer = a pig's ear and sweet heart = treat tart! All ladies had lots of fun just listening to Lesley speaking these rhymes, but in their hearts all feared that these terms would be used to draw the numbers for Bingo. You could nearly hear the relaxed sigh, when normal numbers were announced. While one number after the other was drawn, luck came nearer and nearer, till finally someone was a winner. The three winners, the first Marie, the second Marie again - but she forwarded to the next winner Liesel and the third Valerie got nice presents. As always, the activity part of our meeting was followed by „chatting“ time with coffee and tea to exchange the news, and thanks to Anna and Monika all enjoyed strawberry and chocolate cake. Yummy!!! All our thanks go to Lesley, who put in so much effort, and Ina who supported her to make this wonderful and enjoyable afternoon happen.
