When John Sykes isn’t hiking around the edge of England, he takes some time to walk with us around parts of Cologne. This time it was the Gross St. Martin area, basically thru nooks and crannies of our beloved Altstadt, starting at the Jan von Werth fountain behind the Rathaus. How many times  have  most of us walked past this interesting fountain not knowing the story behind it? John filled us in, thus began our casual walk from Alter Mmarkt down to the Rhine. There we could see, for example, how the once well-known restaurant, Stapelhäuschen, is being demolished, due to rotting beams. We stopped at several buildings, where John had stories to tell us. Our walk ended outside the famous church, Gross St. Martin, which we didn’t go into, saving that for another time. 13 ladies attended this walk.  We’re hoping to hear more about John’s continuous hike around England at an IN meeting probably early next year.
