IN-Meeting 4th March 2026 on BALANCE TRAINING by Elli Schulte

On Wednesday March 4th 2026 16 Cosmopolitan Club ladies met for our monthly IN-Meeting.

The theme this time was Balance Training and Elli Schulte, a professional sports scientist and trainer, gave us a fascinating talk on the importance of balance training with particular emphasis on Safer Walking. Some of her statistics on the increased likelihood of injuries through lack of balance and subsequent loss of quality of life were a bit scary but I think we all got the message – Keep moving regularly.
Following her theoretical talk she gathered us all in a large circle and following her directions we learned to carry out a range of exercises including squats and calf raises . All were done with the support of a chair and in different positions of the feet. She exercised with us and we found the exercises very doable if sometimes we felt we discovered muscles we hadn’t felt in a long time. But it was all great fun and there was lots of laughing- mainly about our own joints.
She explained that 150 minutes of these exercises per week is the basic training requirement- spread out over 7 days of course.
And she particulary stressed that It’s Never Too Late To Start!
We were able to ask further questions during the tea/coffee break and were all given a leaflet to take home with detailed and helpful descriptions of the exercises.
It was an excellent talk and what I liked a lot was that she didn’t terrify us with too much negative information. The theme of the talk as quoted above is very important for all of us
