As John Sykes continues his hike around the rim of England, we continue to enjoy his progess reports. Having begun 4 years ago on the northwest coast, he has now reached Cornwall. But not the artsy touristy Rosamunde Pilcher Cornwall, rather the rugged coast, where you have to be prepared for quick changes of weather and rough terrain. This part also included King Arthur’s castle, Tintangle. Other places John hiked through included Mousehole and Port Isaac (known as Doc Martin’s town). He also experienced surfing at Watergate Bay, as a spectator! and the former mining areas. Tin, copper and slate were mined here. Of course, John enhanced his talk with photos and maps. For more complete information about John’s hike, check out his Instagram account ( johnstuartsykes) and his website, www.beatingthebounds.eu.
We’re already looking forward to his next ‘installment. The rest of his hike could take another 10 years, making us wonder how long we can follow him! 14 ladies attended this talk.
