After Liesel, one of our members, explored the Antartic and ‘played’ with the penguins several years ago, she decided to explore the other end of the globe and visit the polar bears. These huge fast animals are not to be played with! Her trip through The Northwest Passage, from west to east, was the fascinating material for Liesel’s talk on March 19. The Northwest Passage is only navigable about 4 weeks of the year, the cruise takes 4 weeks from Alaska to Greenland. In contrast to the Antartic trip, this one included a look into the Inuit culture and various landscapes. For example, there are no hospitals in the area, only clinics, help has to be reached by air. Liesel enhanced her talk with photos and maps, making it easier for us to get an idea of the trip. When asked at the end of her talk which trip she preferred, she pointed out how different each trip is, making a preference impossible. We’re looking forward to more travel replorts from Liesel in the near future. 19 ladies attended this IN meeting.
