IN-Meeting on 7th May 2025 – John Sykes – Update on his Walking Enland’s Coast

Not only is John Sykes a tour guide in Cologne. In his spare time he enjoys hiking around the rim of England. And we enjoy hearing about his venture, which is usually an adventure. In this talk he has reached Cornwall, so hilly and treacherous that his wife took a terrible fall, breaking her arm, causing him to make a necessary break. Before this accident however, there were many highlights, for example, beaches known to surfers (certainly less expected on the west coast of England) and the rugged area used by the Americans to practise for the landing at the Normandy. John of course enhanced his talk with maps and photos, many of which can be seen on his Instagram account.(johnstuartsykes) well-worth exploring. Also his website, www.beatingthebounds.eu, gives a full account of his hikes and the motivation behind his endeaver. We will continue to follow him as long as possible, the whole hike could last another 10 years, making us stop and think about how long we will be involved! For the time being, we thoroughly enjoy his talks and wish him good luck for the future. We’re looking forward to seeing John again in the fall. 21 ladies attended this first meeting after our Easter Break.
