Visit to the Post Tower in Bonn on 24th May 2017

On May 24 we had our last OUT meeting of this season, to the well-known Post Tower in Bonn. Most of us know the building from the outside as part of Bonn’s skyline. But from the inside it’s spectacular. It’s actually two buildings, which you don’t see at first from the outside as they are connected by a glass and steel structure. Experiencing this from the inside was breath-taking. Our lively, competent guide got us interested from the very beginning, emphasizing the environmental-friendly aspects, for example, of using water from the Rhine for heating and cooling. The view from the second floor balcony was amazing, looking onto the Rhine and the city park, Rhein-Aue. But then he took us on the express lift to the 30th floor. Not quite the top – that’s reserved for the board of directors! – but certainly a brilliant view.
The Post Tower is the tallest building in NRW, and,the tallest building in Germany, outside Frankfurt.
The building is not open to the public, so we were so lucky to get this tour. Many thanks to our programme organizers, Katie and Linda, for this informative and interesting day.
And in fact, many thanks, Katie and Linda, for all our interesting excursions this year.
Indeed, our programme this year has been really awesome. We are not just a “Kaffee und Kuchen” ladies club. We have covered so many different cultural aspects in and about Cologne and Bonn. We’re looking forward to next year’s programme beginning after the summer break, but first, we have informal lunches during the summer. Check our website for exact dates and places.
